Serena continues to be infuriating – acting overly sexual around her biological father and never giving anyone a chance to finish a sentence before she turns around to walk out of the room.  The show, however, once it stopped portraying Rufus as a bumbling idiot, and once it brought back the darker sides of Blair, Serena and Chuck, took a turn for the better.

These past two episodes have been full of emotion, deceit, and desire. Appearances of new characters are not longer trivial and obnoxious (like the god awful episodes with Chuck’s mom). When every character has a believable stake in the situation, the plot seems so much more dramatic.

Enhancing this drama is the gossip girl soundtrack turned ominous. You can hear the intensity in all three of these selections. The intensity that would be present when two lovers are torn apart by betrayal, when a family is being split up by deceit, and when a teen feels like her world is falling apart.

White Rabbits – Percussion Gun 2009

Telegraph Canyon – Into the Woods 2009

Holly Miranda – No One Just Is 2010

Discovery – Slang Tang 2009

Enjoy these gems. Gossip Girl gave us a great musical line-up this past episode. I had never heard of Telegraph Canyon and they are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. The annoying thing is, a completely different song called “Lost Faith” was played on the show and I cannot find it anywhere. Artists probably send Josh Schwartz tons of new work that doesn’t yet exist for the rest of us to enjoy. So frustrating! Dear, Josh Schwartz, if you are going to wet our appetite with new stuff please provide some way for us to access it. By the time the songs do come out, I will probably have forgotten about them and they will forever be lost in the infinite blogosphere of music.

“Into the Woods” is off of Telegraph Canyon’s 2009 album The Tide and The Current. They are currently in Eindhoven, Netherlands playing at the Effenaar Queensday Festival.

+ 1000 for great taste in music – but what else would you expect fom Josh Schwartz, also creator of the OC, whose soundtrack picks helped launch countless music careers.

-1000 for flaunting GG’s VIP status and tempting its viewers with music that only GG has exclusive rights to play.

For example and very relevant today, here is Vampire Weekend’s highly anticipated ‘White Sky’ played on the show in November – but not released to the public until, well, tomorrow! The first 1:31 seconds of the show begin with ‘White Sky’ in the background.

We’ll see you again after the show airs tonight for a look into ‘the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite’ –
